Masculine and Feminine
The masculine and feminine series symbolizes the interplay of masculine and feminine energies inside the psyche of humanity. The psyches of both men and women are made up of these complementary energies, which enact a balance or lack of balance within our consciousness. We as a species reflect an enormous imbalance of consciousness, within our relationship to the natural environment, and our relationship to each other. These images explore the questions: What does a balance or imbalance of masculine and feminine energies look like symbolically? Is it the imbalance of masculine and feminine energies in the psyches of human beings that is responsible for destroying the environment of planet earth? Could finding a state of balance between the two possibly save the planet? What would our world be like?
These monoprints are created by the technique of painting textile dyes on to a silkscreen and printing with wallpaper paste on paper. Coloured pencils are then added to the surface to create texture and sharpen the focus.
